Download and install the Web browser of your choosing. For purposes of
this exercise, we’ll be using Mozilla Firefox.
Once you start Firefox, you can import your Favorites (bookmarked
Websites), saved passwords, and other options by going to the File menu and
choosing Import.
On the next
screen, deselect Cookies and Browsing History. There’s no need to import these
items.
To use tabbed browsing, you can go to the File menu and choose New Tab to
open a new tab. If you have a link within a website that you would like to open
in a new tab: put the mouse over the link, click your right mouse button, and
select Open Link in New Tab.
To change the look of your browser window, you can download and install
new themes. A new window will appear. Themes may change the color of the browser
window, the shape and style of toolbar buttons, etc. Go to the Tools menu and
select Themes, then select Get More Themes. You’ll be directed to a Website
where you can download new themes to try out.
You may also want to download Extensions. These are small add-ons that
increase the functionality of Firefox. For example, the Auto Copy extension
allows you to select text on a Webpage, and the text is automatically copied to
your clipboard. To download extensions, go to the Tools menu and choose
Extensions, then Get More Extensions.
Following either
the Themes or Extensions directions above will also get you access to
downloading Plugins for Firefox. Just look for the Plugins link at the top of
the new Webpage that opens once you follow the above directions. Plugins allow
you to view different content on the Internet; some common plugins are Flash
Player, Java, Shockwave, and Acrobat Reader.
