Jonathan BeverlyWhat Does My Public Library Mean To Me?
by Jonathan Beverly
age 15, Smyrna

From the ancient times to the colonial age libraries have existed. Libraries in ancient Sumer brought a since of civilization to an evolving society. Libraries have evolved over the centuries they have been around.  A library is now a place to sit and relax; be able to clear your mind and focus on anything you want.  Every time you visit you leave with more knowledge that you entered with.

My library for me is a place to get away and just relax. I know that no matter how chaotic life can become I can always have a place to learn and relax. My library is a place to come and clear my mind of all the complicated things. At my library I have the ability to learn anything I want, and it is all at my fingertips.

With technology booming in today’s world a titanic percentile of the population is left in the technical darkness. My library is a place for me to embrace new technology; for it is hard for any consumer to keep up on the latest gadgets. At my library I know that I am welcome to come, and learn how to use modern technology no matter what my skill level is. My library is a place where I cannot be ashamed of my skills. My library is a place for me to help others and spread knowledge.

With my library I am able to browse through the minds of thousands of incredible people. It just blows my mind that I have the ability to learn so much. It infuriates me that so many people don’t know what lies inside those doors. My library to me is a portal to eternal knowledge.

Libraries are shrinking all across the world. With technology advancing everything is becoming available in people’s home. My library to me is a place to just relax and embrace myself with the gift of knowledge and technology. A place to learn anything I desire. All I have to do is turn a page.  I am so grateful that I have a library in my life because with a library comes knowledge. And with knowledge comes success.
