Linebaugh Public Library System is sponsoring an Essay
Contest on the topic: What Does My Public Library Mean to Me? The deadline for
entries was October 31.
Rules & Guidelines:
- The contest is open to all LPLS library card holders,
ages 6 and older.
- Essays must be no more than 500 words.
- Essays must be typed, double-spaced.
- You must attach a cover sheet with the following
information:
- Do not place your name on any of the pages of the essay
– only on the cover sheet.
- Only essays will qualify for the contest; no other
content or media will be accepted.
- Family members of LPLS employees or contest judges are not
eligible to participate.
- By entering this contest, entrants (and/or their parent
or legal guardian) agree to be bound by the decisions of the judges, which are
final and binding, and grant LPLS the right to use their name and city of
residence for promotional or publicity purposes.
- All submissions become property of the Linebaugh Public
Library System.
Judging:
Essays will be judged according to the following age groups: 6-10 years old,
11-15 years old, 16-20 years old, 21 and older. Twenty semi-finalists will be
selected by a panel of LPLS staff. These essays will then be judged by a panel
of elected officials (comprising Murfreesboro, Smyrna, Eagleville, and
Rutherford County). One winner will be selected from each category. Essays will
be judged based on flow and creativity, sentiment, proper sentence structure,
and spelling.
Prizes:
A First-place winner will be selected from each category. Finalists will
have their essays printed in the Daily News Journal. Prizes include:
