A History of
the Town of Smyrna

Smyrna History coverTo the delight of many Rutherford County residents, Friends of Smyrna Public Library has re-released volume 1 of Walter King Hoover’s A History of the Town of Smyrna

Lifelong Smyrna resident  and historian Walter King Hoover released History of the Town of Smyrna in 1968 and it has served as one of the few definitive sources of Smyrna’s history.  As the town of Smyrna grows by leaps and bounds, the release of this long out-of-print resource will remind some and enlighten even more of Smyrna’s interesting past. This reprint features an acknowledgement page and a different cover, but otherwise is identical to the original in content.

Hoover was a long-time resident and historian in Smyrna. He died in 2002 at the age of 92. Before his death, he donated a sizable research collection to the Albert Gore Research Center at MTSU.

The book is available to purchase for $40 at Smyrna Public Library, with a large majority of the proceeds benefiting the library book fund. To order a copy by mail, please send a check for $40, plus $5 shipping, payable to Friends of Smyrna Public Library. Please include your preferred shipping address. Mail orders to:
